Uncovering Efficient Systems In Interview Skills

In a question and answer session with U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King, Jr., Lima discussed the pillars of early childhood education, the inclusion of families, professional barriers to early childhood teachers and what parents should look for in a preschool. The interview, hosted in Delaware, was aired live on the morning of Aug. 2 on the U.S. Department of Education’s (DOE) Facebook page. The Facebook video had more than 700 views within minutes of the event’s conclusion, according to Facebook data. High quality preschool, Lima said, is grounded in “hands-on” activities and “learning through play.” In Clifton, Lima’s students have blocks of free work time in teacher-designed centers which focus on math skills, science exploration, dramatic play, literacy and art. Instead of leading children in their learning all the time, during work time teachers are led by students and serve to stretch their learning to new heights. At a sand table, which looks much like a sand box with legs, students learn about measurements and how to ask scientific questions. Lima said she uses this opportunity to “provoke thought processes” and math concepts by asking students to guess, then check how many scoops of sand it would take to fill a particular container.
